CompBenefits' VisionCare Plan Transforms LASIK Benefits with First-Ever LASIK Insurance
Product, Now Available in Three Texas Markets
Atlanta (July 15, 2005) CompBenefits, a company known for developing innovative dental and
vision benefit products, announced today that it is making a LASIK insurance rider available
in three Texas markets. Typically LASIK "coverage" is included in an insurance plan as a
discount program. Now, people who select the CompBenefits VisionCare Plan can have the benefit
of an insurance product if their doctor recommends LASIK surgery.
Insurance companies have traditionally considered LASIK surgery a procedure that can be
replaced by less costly treatment options. This type of surgery can cost around $9,000.
However, as demand for the procedure has increased, CompBenefits has designed a plan that
integrates this option into the company's core vision insurance plans. Now, CompBenefits
customers can select the treatment they most prefer without facing an expense that makes LASIK
out of reach for many. This insurance program includes exclusive access to participating
network ophthalmologists. CompBenefits has special contracting requirements for the insurance
plan to ensure that the surgery is done in LASIK centers with the experience that meets the
CompBenefits' VisionCare Plan standards.
"This new eye health insurance break through is phenomenal because VisionCare Plan members in
Texas are able to buy an upgrade to an eye health benefit that controls costs while at the
same time providing access to the country's superior laser surgery offices," says VisionCare
Plan's Dr. Howard Braverman.
To take advantage of this new insurance benefitwhich is available now in Dallas/Fort Worth,
Houston and San AntonioVisionCare Plan members must select the LASIK rider when they enroll
in a VisionCare Plan. Dr. Braverman said it is important to start educating people about the
availability of the plan now since it is near the time when many companies give employees
their once a year opportunity to sign up for new benefits. "We are so pleased the program is
ready to go now in Texas," said Braverman. "If it works as well as we think it will I'm
confident you'll see CompBenefits expanding this even further."
For 25 years CompBenefits has focused on creating affordable programs that provide easy access
to vision and oral health care. The company today has almost 5 million member and is
headquartered near Atlanta, Georgia
